அருணாசல அஷ்டகம்

அறிவறு கிரியென வமர்தரு மம்மா
வதிசய மிதன்செய லறிவரி தார்க்கு
மறிவறு சிறுவய ததுமுத லருணா
சலமிகப் பெரிதென வறிவினி லங்க
வறிகில னதன்பொரு ளதுதிரு வண்ணா
மலையென வொருவரா லறிவுறப் பெற்று
மறிவினை மருளுறுத் தருகினி லீர்க்க
வருகுறு மமயமி தசலமாக் கண்டேன்.
பொருள்:
அம்மா என்ன அதிசயம்! ஊனக் கண்ணுக்கு ஜடமான கல்மலைபோல் இந்த அருணாசலம் அமர்ந்திருக்கிறது. இதன் அருட்செயல்களோ எவராலும் அறிய முடியாதவை. அறிவு தெரியாத குழந்தைப் பருவத்திலிருந்தே, அருணாசலம் என்றால் எல்லாவற்றையும் விட மிகப் பெரியதென்று என் புத்தியில் தோன்றிக் கொண்டிருந்தது. அது திருவண்ணாமலையேயாகும் என்று ஒருவரால் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டும், அதன் உண்மைப் பொருளை உள்ளபடி நான் அறியவில்லை. பிறகு என் அறிவை மயக்குவித்து அது என்னைத் தன்னிடத்திற்குக் கவர்ந்து கொள்ளவும், அதனருகில் வந்தடைந்தபோது இந்த அருணாசலம் சலனமற்ற மலைவடிவாக இருப்பதைக் கண்டேன்.
Meaning:
Ah! What a wonder! It stands as an Insentient Hill made of rocks and stones. But its actions filled with Grace are mysterious, that no one can understand, past human understanding. From the age of innocence as a child, it had shone within my mind that Arunachala was something of surpassing grandeur beyond everything. But even when I came to know through another person that it was the same as Tiruvannamalai, I did not realize its real meaning. When it lured me and drew me up to it, stilling my mind, and I came close to it, I saw this Arunachala standing unmoving in the form of a hill.
