அருணாசல அஷ்டகம்

நின்னையா னுருவென வெண்ணியே நண்ண
நிலமிசை மலையெனு நிலையினை நீதா
னுன்னுரு வருவென வுன்னிடின் விண்ணோக்
குறவுல கலைதரு மொருவனை யொக்கு
முன்னுரு வுனலற வுன்னிட முந்நீ
ருறுசருக் கரையுரு வெனவுரு வோயு
மென்னையா னறிவுற வென்னுரு வேறே
திருந்தனை யருணவான் கிரியென விருந்தோய்.
பொருள்:
என்னைப்போலவே உன்னையும் உருவமுள்ளவனாக நினைந்து உன்னை அடைய நான் அணுகவும், நீயோ இப்பிரபஞ்சத்தில் அருணாசலம் என்னும் மலைவடிவமாக இருக்கின்றாய். உனது சொரூபம் உருவமற்றது என்று தியானிப்பது, எங்கும் நீக்கமற நிறைந்த ஆகாசத்தைக் காண்பதற்கு, உலகு எங்கும் அலைந்து திரிகின்ற ஒருவனுடைய முயற்சிக்கு நிகராகும். உனது உண்மை சொரூபத்தை எண்ணமற்று உள்ளபடி உணரும்போது, சமுத்திரத்தை ஆழம் காண கடலில் மூழ்கிய சர்க்கரை பொம்மையின் உருவம் கரைவது போல மனம் தன் உருவத்தை இழக்கும். எனது ஆத்ம சொரூபத்தை நான் விசாரித்து அறியும்போது எனக்கென்று தனி உருவம் எது இருக்கிறது, அருணாசலம் என்னும் வானோர் புகழ் மலையாக விளங்குபவரே!
Meaning:
When I approach You, considering You as having a form, You stand in this universe as Arunachala in the form of a Hill. To contemplate on You with the mind, and look for Your essential form as formless, is like one who travels all over the earth to see the ever-present, all-pervading space. While dwelling without thought upon Your Real boundless nature, the mind loses its separate form (identity), like a doll of sugar that wants to see the depth of the ocean, but melts when it comes in contact with the ocean. And when I enquire within and come to realize my Real Self, where is a separate form (identity) for me, Oh You who stands as the towering Arunachala Hill !
