பொருள்:
மெய்யுணர்வை நாடி நின்ற மெய்யடியார் (அதற்குத் தடையான) தம் மனக்கலக்கந் தெளியும்படி அருணாசலனைத் துதித்து வழிபடற் பொருட்டாக, ஆசாரிய ரமணன் தன் மகிழ்ச்சியாற் கூறியதான அக்ஷரமணமாலையே தமக்குற்ற கதியாக நம்பி, அருணாசலமே அகம் என (மனத்தாலெண்ணி), அறிவோ டகத்தே யடங்குவோர் திருவருளாற் சிவனுல காளப் பெறுவர்.

Introductory Verse

This joyful Marital Garland of Letters, which resembles a beam of the light of the rising sun, was sung by the noble Sage Ramana, the ocean of compassion, with the object of removing the delusion of the devotees who sought his grace. Those who look upon it as their sole refuge will realize within themselves that they are Arunachala and will reign in the world of Siva.

அருணாசல வரனுக்கு (நாயகனுக்கு) ஏற்ற அக்ஷர மணமாலையை சாற்றுவதற்கு, கருணைக் கடலான கணபதியே, நீ எனக்குக் கைகொடுத்து அருளி உதவுவாயே

அருணா சலமென வகமே நினைப்பவ
ரகத்தைவே ரறுப்பா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
அருணாசலம் என்று உள்ளத்தில் கருதும் அன்பரின் அகங்காரத்தை வேரோடு அறுப்பாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
You root out the ego of those who meditate on you in their Heart, Arunachala!

2.
அழகுசுந் தரம்போ லகமும் நீயுமுற்
றபின்னமா யிருப்போ மருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
அழகும் சுந்தரமும் போல் நானும் நீயும் பேதமின்றி ஒன்றாயிருப்போம், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
May you and I be one and inseparable like Alagu and Sundara, Arunachala!

அகம்புகுந் தீர்த்துன் னககுகை சிறையா
யமர்வித்த தென்கொ லருணாசலா(அ)

பொருள்:
என் அகத்தில் புகுந்து ஈர்த்து, உன் அகக் குகையில் சிறையாய் அமர்வித்தது என்ன, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Entering my Heart and luring me, why did you imprison me in your heart’s cavern, Arunachala!

ஆருக் காவெனை யாண்டனை யகற்றிடி
லகிலம் பழித்திடு மருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
யாருக்காக என்னை நீ ஆண்டாய்? என்னை அகற்றினால் உலகம் பழித்திடும், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
For whose sake did you rule over me? If you reject me the world will blame you, Arunachala!

இப்பழி தப்புனை யேனினைப் பித்தா
யினியார் விடுவா ரருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
இந்தப் பழியிலிருந்து உன்னை விடுவித்துக்கொள். ஏன் உன்னைப் பித்தாக நினைக்கும்படி செய்தாய்? இனி யார் உன்னை நழுவ விடுவார், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Free yourself from this blame. Why did you make me go crazy over you? Who will now let you slip away, Arunachala!

ஈன்றிடு மன்னையிற் பெரிதருள் புரிவோ
யிதுவோ வுனதரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
பெற்று வளர்த்த தாயையும் மிஞ்சி பெரும் அருள் புரிபவரே! எனக்கு இதுவா உன் அருள், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Oh One who offers more Grace and Kindness than one’s own Mother! Is this you Grace, Arunachala!

உனையே மாற்றி யோடா துளத்தின்மே
லுறுதியா யிருப்பா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
என் மனம் உன்னை ஏமாற்றிவிட்டு ஓடி உழலாதபடி என் உளத்தின் மேல் உறுதியாக வீற்றிரு, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Without letting my mind deceive you and run around, sit firmly in my Heart, Arunachala!

ஊர்சுற் றுளம்விடா துனைக்கண் டடங்கிட
வுன்னழ கைக்காட் டருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
ஊர் சுற்றும் மனம், இடைவிடாது உன்னைக் கண்டு அடங்கிட உன் பூரண அழகு ரூபத்தைக் காட்டு, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
To make my mind that runs around everywhere, to continuously see you and subside, show your perfect beauty, Arunachala!

எனையழித் திப்போ தெனைக்கல வாவிடி
லிதுவோ வாண்மை யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
என்னை (என் அகங்காரத் தன்மையை) அழித்து இப்போது என்னுடன் இணையாவிட்டால், இது தான் ஆண்மையா, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Destroying my ego, if you don’t join me now, is this manliness, Arunachala!

ஏனிந்த வுறக்க மெனைப்பிற ரிழுக்க
விதுவுனக் கழகோ வருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
மற்றவர் என்னை இழுக்கும்போது, ஏன் இந்த உறக்கம்? இது தான் உனக்கு அழகோ, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
When others are dragging me, why this slumber? Is this very nice of you, Arunachala!

ஐம்புலக் கள்வ ரகத்தினிற் புகும்போ
தகத்தினீ யிலையோ வருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
ஐம்புலன்கள் என்னும் கள்வர் என் வீட்டில் (உள்ளத்தில்) புகுந்த போது, நீ வீட்டில் இல்லையோ, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
When the thieves called the Five Senses entered my Heart, were you not at home, Arunachala!

ஒருவனா முன்னை யொளித்தெவர் வருவா
ருன்சூ தேயிது வருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
‘ஒருவனான’ (பரமாத்மாவான) உன்னிடமிருந்து ஒளிந்துக் கொண்டு யார் வர முடியும்? இது உன் சூது தான், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
How can anyone come here, hiding from you who is the ‘One’ (All-Pervading Self)? This is only your scheme, Arunachala!

ஓங்கா ரப்பொரு ளொப்புயர் வில்லோ
யுனையா ரறிவா ரருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
“ஓம்” என்ற சொல்லின் பொருளாக ஒப்பற்று விளங்குபவரே! உன்னை யார் தான் உண்மையில் அறிய முடியும், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Oh One who prevails without comparison as the meaning of the Word “Om” (AUM)! Who can truly understand you, Arunachala!

ஒளவைபோ லெனக்குன் னருளைத் தந்தெனை
யாளுவ துன்கட னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
தன் மக்களுக்கு அன்பளிக்கும் தாயைப் போல் எனக்கு அருள் தந்தாய். என்னை ஆளுவது உன் கடன், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Like a Mother, you gave me grace and kindness. It is your debt to rule over me, Arunachala!

கண்ணுக்குக் கண்ணாய்க் கண்ணின்றிக் காணுனைக்
காணுவ தெவர்பா ரருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
கண்ணையே பார்க்கும் கண்ணாக இருந்து, கண்ணின்றி எல்லாவற்றையும் காண்கின்ற உன்னை யாரால் காண முடியும்? என்னைப் பார், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Being the Eye that sees the eyes, still without eyes you see everything. Who can see you? See me, Arunachala!

காந்த மிரும்புபோற் கவர்ந்தெனை விடாமற்
கலந்தெனோ டிருப்பா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
காந்தம் இரும்பைக் கவர்வது போல், நீயும் என்னை கவர்ந்து, என்னை விடாமல் என்னடன் இணைந்து இருப்பாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Like a magnet that attracts iron, you too draw me to yourself and be without leaving me, Arunachala!

17.
கிரியுரு வாகிய கிருபைக் கடலே
கிருபைகூர்ந் தருளுவா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
மலை உருவாகிய அருட்கடலே, கருணைக் கடலே! கருணையுடன் விரைவில் எனக்கு அருள்செய்வாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Oh Ocean of Mercy in the form of a Mountain! Be king and offer me your grace quickly, Arunachala!

18.
கீழ்மே லெங்குங் கிளரொளி மணியென்
கீழ்மையைப் பாழ்செய் யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
கீழ் மேல் எங்கும், எல்லா திசையிலும் பிரகாசித்து ஒளிர்கின்ற மணியே! என் இதயத்தில் உள்ள கீழ்மையை அழித்திடுவாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
The brilliant gem that shines up, down and in all directions! Destroy the lower nature in me, Arunachala!

19.
குற்றமுற் றறுத்தெனைக் குணமாய்ப் பணித்தாள்
குருவுரு வாயொளி ரருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
குற்றங்களை அறவே அறுத்து என்னை குணசாலியாக மாற்றி அருள்வாய், குரு உருவாக ஒளிர், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Removing all the faults in me, and making me a good being, shine as the form of my Guru, Arunachala!

கூர்வாட் கண்ணியர் கொடுமையிற் படாதருள்
கூர்ந்தெனைச் சேர்ந்தரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
நல்லவர்கள்போல் தோன்றினாலும், உண்மையில் கொடியவராக இருப்பவரிடமிருந்து என்னைக் காத்தருள். விரைவில் என்னை சேர்ந்தருள், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Save me from those who seem like good people, but actually are bad. Join me quickly, Arunachala!

21.
கெஞ்சியும் வஞ்சியாய்க் கொஞ்சமு மிரங்கிலை
யஞ்சலென் றேயரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
நான் மிகவும் கெஞ்சியும் நீ ஒரு வஞ்சகன்போல் கொஞ்சமும் இரங்கவில்லை. அஞ்சாதே எனக் கூறி எனக்கு அருள் செய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Even though I beg you much, like a mean person you don’t melt even a little. Say “Don’t fear!” to me, and give me your grace, Arunachala!

கேளா தளிக்குமுன் கேடில் புகழைக்
கேடுசெய் யாதரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
கேட்பதற்கு முன்பே அளிக்கும், கேடில்லாத புகழ் கொண்ட உனது புகழை கேடு செய்யாமல், எனக்கு அருள் செய்வாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
You are reputed as one who gives even before asking. Without ruining such a faultless reputation, offer me your grace, Arunachala!

23.
கையினிற் கனியுன் மெய்ரசங் கொண்டுவ
கைவெறி கொளவரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
என் கரத்தில் உன் உண்மை ஸ்வரூபத்தின் மதுவை ஏந்தி அதனால் வெறி கொண்டு இருக்க அருள் செய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Holding the nectar of your Real nature in my hands, let me get intoxicated, Arunachala!

24.
கொடியிட் டடியரைக் கொல்லுனைக் கட்டிக்
கொண்டெஙன் வாழ்வே னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
கொடியிட்டு அடியாரைக் கொல்லாது கொல்கின்ற உன்னுடன் இணைந்து எப்படி தான் வாழ்வேனோ, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Fixing your attention, you kill your devotees without killing. How am I going to live with you, Arunachala!

25.
கோபமில் குணத்தோய் குறியா யெனைக்கொளக்
குறையென் செய்தே னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
கோபமற்ற சாந்தகுணமுள்ளவரே! என்னை உனது குறியாகக் கொள்ள நான் என்ன குறை செய்தேன், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Oh One who is calm without anger! What error did I commit that you should make me your target, Arunachala!

26.
கௌதமர் போற்றுங் கருணைமா மலையே
கடைக்கணித் தாள்வா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
கௌதமர் போற்றும் கருணை மாமலையே! எனக்கு உன் கடைக்கண்ணால் அருள் செய்து ஆள்வாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Oh Mountain that is praised by Gautama Muni! Glance at me, give me your grace and rule over me, Arunachala!

சகலமும் விழுங்குங் கதிரொளி யினமன
சலச மலர்த்தியி டருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
எல்லாவற்றையும் விழுங்கும் கதிரொளியே, என் மனத் தாமரையை மலரச் செய்துவிடு, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Oh The Sunlight that swallows up everything! Make the Lotus of my Heart bloom, Arunachala!

28.
சாப்பா டுன்னைச் சார்ந்துண வாயான்
சாந்தமாய்ப் போவ னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
எனக்கு உணவாக உன்னைக் கருதி, நானே உனக்கு உணவாகி, சாந்தமாக போய் விடுவேன், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Taking you to be my food, becoming myself your food, I will become calm, Arunachala!

29.
சித்தங் குளிரக்கதி ரத்தம்வைத் தமுதவா
யைத்திற வருண்மதி யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
மனம் குளிர உன் அமுத கதிர்களால் அமுத நிலையை திறப்பாய், அருள் மிகுந்த நிலவே, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Making my mind cool with your nectar-like rays, open the nectar-like state, Oh gracious Moon, Arunachala!

30.
சீரை யழித்துநிர் வாணமாச் செய்தருட்
சீரை யளித்தரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
உருவத்தை அழித்து, “நிர்வாண” (நிர்குண பரிபூரண) நிலையில் வைத்து, உன் அருள் உருவை எனக்கு அளித்தருள், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Destroying form, placing in the naked (Attributeless Real) state, offer me your gracious form, Arunachala!

31.
சுகக்கடல் பொங்கச் சொல்லுணர் வடங்கச்
சும்மா பொருந்திடங் கருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
இன்பக்கடல் பொங்க, சொற்களும், உணர்வும் அடங்க, சும்மா வீற்றிரு, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Letting the sea of happiness boil over, the words and feeling subside, just stay, Arunachala!

32.
சூதுசெய் தென்னைச் சோதியா தினியுன்
சோதி யுருக்காட் டருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
சூது செய்து என்னை இனிமேல் சோதிக்காதே, உனது சோதி நிறைந்த உருவை காட்டு, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Don’t scheme and test me hereafter. Show me your form filled with Light, Arunachala!

33.
செப்படி வித்தைகற் றிப்படி மயக்குவிட்
டுருப்படு வித்தைகாட் டருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
மாய வித்தையை உண்மையென்றே கருதி மயங்கும் இவ்வுலக மயக்கத்தை நீக்கி, நிலையான வித்தையைக் காட்டி அருள், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Removing the worldly illusion that considers a stunt as real, show me the real stunt, Arunachala!

34.
சேரா யெனின்மெய் நீரா யுருகிக்கண்
ணீராற் றழிவே னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
என்னுடன் நீ சேராவிட்டால் என் உடல் நீர் போல் உருகி, என் கண்ணீரால் நான் அழிவேன், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
If you don’t join me, my body will melt like water and I will die by my tears, Arunachala!

35.
சையெனத் தள்ளிற் செய்வினை சுடுமலா
லுய்வகை யேதுரை யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
நீ என்னை இகழ்ந்து தள்ளினால், முன்பு செய்த தீவினை என்னைச் சுடுவதன்றி, எனக்கு வேறு கதியேது, சொல், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
If you condemn me and push me away, other than my previous bad deeds burning me, what other fate do I have, tell me, Arunachala!

சொல்லாது சொலிநீ சொல்லற நில்லென்று
சும்மா விருந்தா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
பேசாமல் சும்மா இரு என்று சொல்லால் சொல்லாமல் மௌனத்தால் சொல்லி நீயும் சும்மா இருந்தாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Without saying in words “Keep quiet!”, saying that with your Silence, your were also Silent, Arunachala!

37.
சோம்பியாய்ச் சும்மா சுகமுண் டுறங்கிடிற்
சொல்வே றென்கதி யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
ஒன்றும் செய்யாமல் சும்மா இருந்து, ஆன்ம சுகம் அனுபவித்து உறங்காவிடில் எனக்கு வேறு கதியென்ன சொல், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Without doing anything and being quiet, if I don’t enjoy the Self-Bliss, what other fate is there, tell me, Arunachala!

38.
சௌரியங் காட்டினை சழக்கற்ற தென்றே
சலியா திருந்தா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
உனது பராக்கிரமத்தை காட்டினாய், என் மன இருள் ஒழிந்ததென்று நீ கலக்கமின்றி இருந்தாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
You showed me your Grand Prowess. You were calm that the darkness of my mind is destroyed, Arunachala!

39.
ஞமலியிற் கேடா நானென் னுறுதியா
னாடிநின் னுறுவே னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
நாயை விட கேடா நான்? என் சொந்த உறுதியால் உன்னை நாடி அடைவேன், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Am I worse than a dog? With my own will power, I will reach you and get you, Arunachala!

40.
ஞானமில் லாதுன் னாசையாற் றளர்வற
ஞானந் தெரித்தரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
ஞானம் இல்லாமல் உன்னை அடையவேண்டுமென்ற ஆசை கொண்ட தளர்ச்சி நீங்க, ஞானம் எனக்கு தெரிவித்து அருள், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
To remove the fatigue due to the desire that I should get you without Knowledge, explain the Knowledge to me, Arunachala!

41.
ஞிமிறுபோ னீயு மலர்ந்திலை யென்றே
நேர்நின் றனையென் னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
நீயும் ஒரு வண்டுபோல நீ இன்னும் மலரவில்லை என்று எண்ணி என்னெதிர் நின்றாய், இதென்ன அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Like a bumble bee, thinking that I haven’t bloomed, you just stood there, Arunachala!

42.
தத்துவந் தெரியா தத்தனை யுற்றாய்
தத்துவ மிதுவென் னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
உண்மைத் தத்துவம் அறியாத என்னை ஆன்ம சொரூபத்தை அடையச் செய்தாய். இந்த தத்துவம் தான் என்ன, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
I didn’t know the Real Truth, and you made me achieve the Real Self. What truth this is, Arunachala!

43.
தானே தானே தத்துவ மிதனைத்
தானே காட்டுவா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
தானே தான் தான் என்ற தத்துவத்தை அந்தத் தானாகிய நீயே எனக்குக் காட்டுவாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
The Ego is the Self. You yourself, one who is the Self, show me this Truth, Arunachala!

44.
திரும்பி யகந்தனைத் தினமகக் கண்காண்
டெரியுமென் றனையென் னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
உள்ளத்தில் உட்புறம் திரும்பி, தினமும் அகக்கண்ணால் காண், உண்மை தெரியும் என்றாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
You said, “Turning inward within the Heart, always see with the eyes of your Inner Self, then you will see the Truth”, Arunachala!

45.
தீரமி லகத்திற் றேடியுந் தனையான்
றிரும்பவுற் றேனரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
எல்லையற்ற அகத்தில் உன்னைத் தேடி நான் திரும்பவும் உன் அருளை அடைந்தேன், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Searching for you in the Limitless Heart, I regained your Grace, Arunachala!

46.
துப்பறி வில்லா விப்பிறப் பென்பய
னொப்பிட வாயே னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
விசாரணை செய்யும் அறிவு இல்லாமல் இப்பிறப்பால் என்ன பயன்? எதோடும் இதை ஒப்பிட என்னால் முடியவில்லை, அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Without Self-Enquiry, what is the use of this birth? I cannot compare this with anything, Arunachala!

47.
தூய்மன மொழியர் தோயுமுன் மெய்யகந்
தோயவே யருளென் னருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
தூய மன மொழி கொண்டவரே உறையும் உன் உண்மையான நிலையில் நானும் உறைய அருள் செய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
In your Real state where only those who have pure mind and speech reside, make me reside there too, Arunachala!

48.
தெய்வமென் றுன்னைச் சாரவே யென்னைச்
சேர வொழித்தா யருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
நான் உன்னைக் கடவுளாகக் கருதி சரணாகதி அடையவே, என்னை சேர என்னை (என் அகங்காரத்தை) ஒழித்தாய், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
Because I considered you as God and surrendered, to join me you destroyed me (my ego), Arunachala!

49.
தேடா துற்றநற் றிருவரு ணிதியகத்
தியக்கந் தீர்த்தரு ளருணாசலா (அ)

பொருள்:
தேடாமலே கிடைத்த நல்ல திருவருளே! என் மனத்தின் அறியாமையை தீர்த்து அருள், அருணாசலா!

Meaning:
